Since 1964, the English Language Institute (ELI) at the University of Pittsburgh has been teaching English as a second language (ESL) courses for international students who...

• are planning to attend universities and colleges in North America
• wish to improve their general ability in English
• are already academically admitted to the University of Pittsburgh and need some additional development of their language skills

The ELI has a variety of programs, including:

• Intensive English Program (20 hours a week)
• Multi-skill Evening Course (available for part-time students)
• Short special classes:
  • English Pronunciation for Clear Communication Mini-class
  • Advanced Vocabulary and Discussion Mini-class
  • TOEFL Preparation Class
• Short summer programs:
  • Professional and Academic English Program
  • English as a Foreign Language Program for International Teachers
  • Summer Language and Culture Program

NEW HOUSING OPTION! Homestay with an American family! The ELI is working with OvECS Ltd to offer long-term homestays in private homes in the Pittsburgh area.
