Diversity in the ELI

The English Language Institute (ELI) of the University of Pittsburgh provides an opportunity for people from all over the world to learn about English and each other in a new community. This diversity is one of the ELI's greatest strengths. The ELI is committed to a safe and supportive teaching and learning environment for all its employees and students.

To foster this safe and supportive environment, the ELI works to maintain an institute in which employees and students are not harassed or discriminated against based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, genetic information, marital status, familial  status, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or status as a veteran. The ELI encourages exchanges of information between employees and students alike, so that knowledge, respect, and understanding of cultures and individuals is broadened and deepened.

Our goal is to continue to foster an ELI campus environment that promotes the appreciation of diversity and challenges us to consider the experiences and perspectives of others.
