Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day

Each year on the third Monday of January, schools, government offices, post offices and most banks across the US close to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
 
In the 1960s, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was a leader in the fight for freedom and equality of African Americans and for all people in the United States. For his achievements, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In fact, he was the youngest person ever to win this award. He also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.
