Since 1964, the English Language Institute (ELI) at the University of Pittsburgh has been teaching English as a second language (ESL) courses for international students who...

• are planning to attend universities and colleges in North America
• wish to improve their general ability in English
• are already academically admitted to the University of Pittsburgh and need some additional development of their language skills

The ELI has a variety of programs, including:

• Intensive English Program (CEA-accredited) (20 hours a week; part-time study available for anyone not on a student visa)
• Multi-skill Evening Course (available for part-time students)
• Short special classes:
  • English Pronunciation for Clear Communication Mini-class
  • IELTS Preparation Class
  • TOEFL Preparation Class - Evening course (satisfies Au Pair requirements)
  • TOEFL Preparation Class - Daytime course
  • Campus Conversation Course (CCC)
    
    
• Short summer programs:
  • Professional and Academic English Program
  • English as a Foreign Language Program for International Teachers
  • Summer Language and Culture Program
    

HOUSING OPTION: Homestay with an American family! The ELI works with OvECS Ltd to offer long-term homestays in private homes in the Pittsburgh area.
